Tips for buying a child car seat

Choose the seat according to weight, respectively the size of the child. Give preference to models that are good in TCS tests.

If the vehicle is equipped with Isofix couplings, also consider the relative seats.

Only purchase seats with the homologation label (orange) in accordance with ECE R44.04 or R129 (e.g. 04 30 10 27).

Try to fit the seat in your vehicle. Check the length and geometry of the seat belts. Make sure that the seat is fixed securely. Exclude that it wobbles or may even tip over.

Check that the child is easily tied and that the adjustment mechanism does not create problems.

A removable liner is more hygienic.

Are used car seats a good choice?

In tests on a random sample, an "old" model ECE R44.02 did not withstand the impact. The belt guides broke, causing the seat and dummy to end up against the back of the front seat.
Today, models approved before 1995 can no longer be used, i.e. in accordance with ECE R44.01 or 44.02. However, the TCS recommends that you use car seats only for a certain period. This allows you to discard seats that are now outdated by technological development, far from being able to guarantee today's levels of protection. With frequent use, even the expanded polystyrene components degrade, compromising the cushioning effect of the material. London airport transfer

The seat is a fundamental safety element

Before using a second-hand seat, the following precautions should be taken:

Check the accessories with the assembly instructions.

Make sure that the belt, straps and belt guides are free from damage or lose parts.

Check the operation of buckles, clasps, belt adjustments and stop devices.

Look for any cracks or deformations. Remove the padding to see if the components are intact.

Use only seats with the orange label with the inscription ECE-R 44.03, 04 or ECE-R 129.

Old ECE-R 44.01 and 02 systems are no longer authorized.

Do not use a device that has already suffered an accident.
